Representative Maria Syms was awarded the Women in American History award this weekend by the Grand Canyon Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a nonprofit, nonpolitical women's service organization founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.
The Women in American History Award is given to women who have made a contribution or a difference in their community and are intellectual, educational, social, religious, political, scientific, or cultural innovators.
"Representative Syms is committed to a cultural shift that prioritizes victims' rights and treats women with dignity. Her breakthrough legislation serves as touchstones for bettering our state and the lives of people," said Jean Roper Howell, DAR Honorary Grand Canyon Chapter Regent.
"It's a tremendous honor to receive this award from the Daughters of the American Revolution, a women's organization dedicated to fostering patriotism and the democratic principles that make our country exceptional," said Representative Syms.
